Ride-A-Long Program
Depending on the number of pit crew members participating on race night, from 4 to 6 seats in the team transporter will be available for fans to "ride-a-long" with the team to the races. On most race days, the team will be on the road by 2:30 PM to arrive at the track by 5:00 PM. You can get a pit pass and watch the races from either the pits or main grandstands, and visit the race trailer to see how the night is going. After the race is over and the team is packed up, you can ride home with the team (getting home between 11:00 PM and 12:30 AM).
Advantages
No need to worry about directions, parking, or gas...we do the driving
Get to experience a true night at the races, from beginning to end
Disadvantages
You're at the races - beginning to end, and can't leave early (or is that an advantage?)
With actual racing not starting until around 7:00 PM, you'll have 2 hours of "down-time" in the pits
Tag-A-Long
You can always follow the team transporter to the track to enjoy a night of racing (just don't be late!). No need for directions and you can enjoy the comfort of your own vehicle. When you arrive at the track, you'll park in the general parking area - which means you can leave right after the feature is over.
Advantages
No need for directions - simply follow us to the races!
You can leave anytime you want
Disadvantages
It's approximately a 2-1/2 hour drive to Saluda, VA from Northern VA
Your vehicle will most likely get dirty (see notes below)
Things to Consider
This is DIRT racing, and you will get dirty. The only question is how much. Most nights you will only get a light "dusting", both on yourself and your car.
To keep dirt out of your eyes and face, its a good idea to bring a hat and/or safety glasses.
Avoid wearing white or clothes that get dirty easily - jeans and dark shirts work best.
Races start during the day (hot) and last until evening (sometimes cold). If you get cold easily, bring a jacket.
If you want to experience the races from "behind the scenes", you'll want to get a "pit pass" which costs $20-$25 and gives you access to the pits and the main grandstands. The pits are where all of the cars and transporters are parked during the races, and you can walk right up to most cars and see the action.
When in the pits, you basically sign your life away. You have to pay attention, as cars are constantly moving (fast) and you are in their way. Most tracks do not allow minors under the age of 14 in the pits, and they must have a parent or guardian along.
The pits only have one grandstand that is not as high as the main grandstand (and they are wood vs. aluminum). Concessions are also available at only one location and do not include as many items at the main grandstands.
If you want the best view of the racing action and best concessions, then you will want to be in the main grandstand. Prices are generally $10-$12 and you have plenty of places to sit. The grandstands are aluminum and comparable to NASCAR seating. You usually want to be seated 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up the grandstands, at or near the middle of the front stretch. Avoid the entrance and exits of the turns, unless you like being pelted by small rocks and stones.
Have fun - cheer for your favorite driver - watch how the cars enter and exit the turns. Dirt racing is totally different that racing on asphalt (i.e., NASCAR), and new fans will be amazed by how sideways the cars get...It's awesome baby!
